The January 2023 LMCC meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 25 at 5:30pm est. We will be meeting in person in the HHIVE Lab, also known as Gaskin Library, Greenlaw Hall, Room 524. If you can’t join us in person, you can also attend via Zoom at https://unc.zoom.us/j/99228197675. If you have trouble with the Zoom link, please email either of the Co-Directors.

For our January meeting, we will be debriefing from our experience at the MLA Annual Convention, focusing on the work of two scholars who presented at the panel we co-organized, “Health, Medicine and Literature: Critical Intersections.”

  • We will discuss a paper by Patrick Allen, “‘Nothing Made Them Change Their Minds about the Medical Industry’: Medical Abuse, Incarceration, and Healing in Toni Morrison’s Home,” a paper he presented at our panel and has recently published in MELUS. You can access his paper on the “Readings” page of our site.
  • Suvendu Ghatak is tentatively planning to attend via Zoom so he can present his paper, “Malaria and Mutiny: Picturesque Pathogeny in British India” for us in real-time, a paper he presented at our MLA panel as well.

As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out. We look forward to meeting with you all for an exciting discussion of this work!
