The Literature, Medicine, and Culture Colloquium (LMCC) at UNC is excited for our next meeting! We will meet on Wednesday, September 24 at 5:30pm eastern time in UNC’s HHIVE Lab, also known as Gaskin Library or Greenlaw 524.

If you can’t attend in person, you can always attend via our usual Zoom link: https://unc.zoom.us/j/99228197675. If you have trouble with the Zoom link, please email either of the Co-Directors. (See our email addresses on the “Home” page of the LMCC website.)

For our September meeting, we’ll be discussing Elaina Plott Calabro’s article on legalized suicide, also known as medical assistance in dying (MAID), “Canada is Killing Itself” (The Atlantic, Aug. 11, 2025).

Other suggested optional readings for our September meeting include:

All members of the UNC community have free access to The New York Times. The links to all of these readings listed above are posted on the “Readings” page of the LMCC website. In case you cannot access these articles online, we have also posted .pdf files of all of these articles on that page as well. (We do, however, encourage you to read these articles online, if possible, because some of these articles contain links to further information or content and/or contain brief videos or other embedded media worthy of further interrogation and discussion.)

If you run into trouble getting access to the texts, please contact one of the Co-Directors. (See our email addresses on the Home page of this site).

If you have any questions, please contact us directly. Please also feel free to share this info with other graduate or professional students who might be interested! We look forward to meeting with you all for an exciting discussion of this work!
