About the LMCC
The Literature, Medicine, and Culture Colloquium (LMCC) at UNC actually predates both the Literature, Medicine, and Culture MA program as well as the Health Humanities Lab (HHIVE Lab) at UNC. The LMCC was founded in 2012 by Professor Jane Thrailkill, with support from Professor Beverly Taylor who was then the current Chair of the Department of English and Comparative Literature at UNC-Chapel Hill.
It was originally founded as a faculty and graduate student working group. Anneke Schwob and Doreen Theirauf were both involved in its founding as well.
Kym Weed took over as Co-Director with Jennifer Edwell from 2014 – 2016. During that time, the group would conduct journal reviews (i.e., everyone would read an article from a recent issue of a journal and then discuss), book reviews, reading group work, writing workshops (on conference papers, articles, dissertation chapters, etc.), and pedagogy workshops (such as reviewing each other’s syllabi).
