The Literature, Medicine, and Culture Colloquium (LMCC) at UNC is excited for the beginning of a new academic semester! Our first meeting for Spring 2024 will take place on Wednesday, January 31 at 5:30pm in UNC’s recently renovated HHIVE Lab, also known as Gaskin Library or Greenlaw 524.

Note: All of our meetings this semester will take place at 5:30pm on the last Wednesday of each month in the HHIVE Lab.

If you can’t attend in person, you can always attend via our usual Zoom link: https://unc.zoom.us/j/99228197675. If you have trouble with the Zoom link, please email either of the Co-Directors.

For our January meeting, we’ll be discussing Annemarie Mol’s The Body Multiple: Ontology in Medical Practice (Duke UP, 2002). Specifically, we’d like everyone to read the following:

  • Preface (pp. vii-xii)
  • Ch. 1: “Doing Disease” (pp. 1-27)
  • Optional/suggested reading: Ch. 2: “Different Atheroscleroses” (pp. 29-51)

All members of the UNC community can access the full text of the book online through the UNC Libraries. We’ve also posted .pdfs of these materials onto the “Readings” page of the LMCC website. If you run into trouble getting access to the text, please contact one of the Co-Directors. (See our email addresses on the Home page of this site).

If you have any questions, please contact us directly. Please also feel free to share this info with other graduate or professional students who might be interested! We look forward to meeting with you all for an exciting discussion of this work!
